This Week in Apps: App Store advertising expands, Google Play plans for safety, Epic v. Apple trial begins

Welcome back to This Week in Apps, the weekly TechCrunch series that recaps the latest in mobile OS news, mobile applications and the overall app economy. The app industry continues to grow, with a record 218 billion downloads and $143 billion in global consumer spend in 2020. Consumers last year also spent 3.5 trillion minutes using apps on Android devices alone. And in the U.S., app usage surged ahead of the time spent watching live TV. Currently, the average American watches 3.7 hours of live TV per day, but now spends four hours per day on their mobile devices. http://forum.naronanews.com/showthread.php?tid=5455 https://amantespastoraleman.com/foro/showthread.php?tid=1475 https://saldogratispoker.com/showthread.php?tid=37501 https://plainnuts.com/showthread.php?tid=16022 http://www.ttl.co-re.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=130091 https://therockandduckshow.net/showthread.php?tid=41738 https://whitehatcommunity.com/showthread.php?tid=47189 https://emiratehub.ae/thread-309.html http...

Top cybersecurity VCs share how COVID-19 has changed investing

But the wheels of the world keep turning, albeit slower than during normal times. But where the world has faced challenges, the cybersecurity industry remains largely unscathed. In fact, some cybersecurity businesses are doing better than ever because cybersecurity has emerged as one of the few constants we all need — even during a pandemic. The vast majority of the global workforce is (or has been) working from home since the start of the lockdown, and the world had to quickly adjust. Tech companies pushed their technology and services to the cloud. Businesses had to shift from not just securing their office network but also preventing threats against thei...

On  Friday, Facebook  confirmed its plans to buy Giphy, a popular gif search engine, in a deal believed to be worth $400 million. Facebook has indicated it wants to forge new developer and content relationships for Giphy, but what the world’s largest social network really wants with the popular gif platform might be more than meets the eye. As Bloomberg and other outlets have suggested, it’s possible that Facebook really wants the company as a lens into how users engage with its competitors’ social platforms. Giphy’s gif search tools are currently...

The new report notes that sales hit a record $10.86 billion in the States between January and March of this year, marking a 9% increase over a year prior. $9.58 billion of that figure was from video game content. The primary driver is, you guessed it, COVID-19. As stay at home orders have been enacted on the federal and state levels, people are coping with the on-going daily h...
