This new model, which isn’t unlike what some of Amazon’s competitors like Google and Microsoft have launched in the past, uses the latest machine learning techniques to allow the company to build this new model, which is meant to be more “emotive and expressive.” http://tibiadb.com/upload/showthread.php?tid=2123&pid=6556 http://tibiadb.com/upload/showthread.php?tid=2095 http://tibiadb.com/upload/showthread.php?tid=1532&pid=5070 http://tibiadb.com/upload/showthread.php?tid=1172 https://forum.hackerdojo.com/viewtopic.php?t=

Facebook could face billions in potential damages as court rules facial recognition lawsuit can proceed

http://www.maarif-nu.or.id/Opini/tabid/157/ID/125/LP-Maarif-NU-dan-Satuan-Pendidikan-di-Lingkungan-NU.aspx Facebook is facing exposure to billions of dollars in potential damages as a federal appeals court on Thursday rejected Facebook’s arguments to halt a class-action lawsuit claiming it illegally collected and stored the biometric data of millions of users. The class-action lawsuit has been working its way through the courts since 2015 when Illinois Facebook users sued the company for alleged violations of the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act by automatically collecting and identifying people in photographs posted to the service. Now, thanks to a unanimous decision from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, the lawsuit can proceed. The most significant language from the decision from the circuit court seems to be this: We conclude that the development of face template using facial-recognition technology without consent (as alleged here) invades

Apple products under pricing pressure as new 15% tariffs drop Sunday

https://mail.bbqgrub.com/viewtopic.php?t=2862089&p=3146622 http://www.intertopspintour.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19053 A new 15% tariff on Chinese imports will go in effect just after midnight Sunday, placing levies on hundreds of household goods and consumer tech, including a bevy of Apple  products. The tariffs, put in place by President Donald Trump as part of an escalating tit-for-tat trade war with China, were entered into the Federal Register on Friday. Apple, the largest U.S. technology company by market cap, has its products assembled in China by Foxconn and then ships them to consumers all over the world. The Apple Airpods, Apple Watch and accompanying Apple Watch bands and the Apple Homepod are all products subject to the higher tariffs beginning Sunday. The iPhone doesn’t appear to be impacted this round, but could be subject to tariffs that begin Dec. 15. http://www.wheelhorse.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3446 http://www.inglobetechnologies.com/support_forum/

And Symantec  just acquired Blue Coat for $4.7 billion. As the security market shakes up in more ways than one, who wins, who struggles and who will get acquired next? “The Symantec-BlueCoat transaction is the second largest M&A transaction in history for enterprise security. The security market chessboard is evolving right before us,” said Eric McAlpine, Founder of Momentum Partners, a Silicon Valley based M&A advisory firm with a long list of security deals. “Symantec has paid handsomely to make a major move to maintain its position as a leader in the space.  While the headline pric

Netflix is officially making a show based on Neil Gaiman’s ‘Sandman’ comics

While there have been Sandman comic-book characters since 1939, Gaiman’s version (co-created by artists Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg) first appeared 50 years later. Instead of a costumed crimefighter, he was a brooding deity known variously as Dream and Morpheus who ruled over the world of dreams. Over the course of 75 issues, as well as subsequent follow-ups like the gorgeous prequel “Overture,” Gaiman and his collaborators told a sprawling dark fantasy story. In the process, they paved the way for Vertigo (DC’s soon-to-shutter imprint for creat

Netflix reports first net subscriber loss in the US, misses global subscriber growth predictions

http://forum.e36familia.pl/showthread.php?tid=88934 http://www.gifts-forum.ru/showthread.php?t=2621 https://selfpublishingforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=61310 Netflix’s  continued subscription price hikes might finally have reached the end of some customers’ patience in the U.S., judging from an overall paid subscriber decline the company reported in its quarterly earnings for its fiscal second quarter 2019 results. The company’s overall growth for paid subscribers climbed by 2.7 million worldwide, but it actually added 2.83 million new subscribers around the world — while losing around 130,000 net in the U.S. to account for the difference. Netflix’s price for consumers went up from $10.99 to $12.99 during its fiscal Q2 reporting period, which definitely could account for some of the fall-off. The company doesn’t seem to have anticipated such a strong reaction, however, as it had anticipated a net 5.0 million subscriber growth number as of last quarter, based at least in part on th
